Surround yourself with sparkle!

Christmas at the Botanics is an after dark Christmas lights event in partnership between Raymond Gubbay Ltd, a division of Sony Music, and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

The video was produced for a television ad campaign for STV and the Scottish Borders.

Shoot and edit

The brief - to capture the magic! 

Edinburgh is one of an ever expanding number of venues that hosts a "My Christmas Trail". Footage is captured at all of the events with the intention of using that footage to edit the next year's promos. Often an installation that was at a venue one year will feature at a different venue the next so therefore it is important to capture a mixture of footage that identifies the venue but also shows the installations as standalone pieces. 

Shooting after dark (and in the pouring rain on one occasion) presents its own problems - but even if we did have to edit round the umbrellas a good time is always had by all and we always find plenty of people to share their enthusiasm for the events.

Tech and spec

Shot on a Canon C300 with prime lenses to get crisp colourful images in the night time environment.
